WTF IS ANALOG

Wedding film photography, 32mm, 120 Ivy and pine photography

What’s film photography all about? It’s pretty simple – you take pictures using a roll of film. When light hits it, it captures the image, and then you develop the film with chemicals to actually see the photo. It’s an old-school way of taking pictures that gives a totally different vibe than digital. The look of film is classic and can’t be copied by a digital camera – we’ve tried! We base our digital editing style on film, because the colours and textures film produces are one of a kind. Each type of film has its own unique feel. Film makes you slow down and really think about your shot. It’s more manual and a bit of a process, but that’s what makes it so fun for us. It’s nostalgic, timeless, and just has that something special.

When it comes to developing our film, we only trust one place: Jack’s Lab. From the very beginning, Jack’s Lab has stood out to us not just for their incredible quality, but for their care and passion for what they do. We bloody love these people.

Film is personal—it’s about capturing moments that matter—and Jack’s Lab gets that. They treat every roll as if it were their own, which means we can always count on them to deliver stunning, consistent results. Whether it’s black and white or colour, their expertise ensures that every frame is handled with care.

It’s difficult not to go into the lab and end up having a 30 minute conversation about random sh*t, not excluding, oatmilk, films, sean paul, dogs, and sometimes film photography.

They also love the planet, while working with film isn’t inherently eco-friendly, Jack’s Lab is taking steps to reduce their impact. It’s great to know that the lab we rely on is just as thoughtful about the planet as they are about our film (go team, we love them trees).

Apart from their witty charm and good looks, we love their approach to processing. Everything is done in-house, with no outsourcing, so you know exactly who’s handling your film and how it’s being treated. It’s rare to find a lab that feels as invested in your art as you are, and that’s why they’re the only lab we trust for all our film processing needs.

WHAT FILM DO WE USE?

120/Medium
Format

It's larger than 35mm film, which allows it to capture more detail and produce higher-quality images. The film is about 60 millimetres wide, and depending on the camera and the frame size, it can give you anywhere from 8 to 16 photos per roll.

AND 35mm

It’s called "35mm" because the width of the film strip is 35 millimetres. This film size is popular because it’s small, portable, and can capture high-quality images. It’s been widely used in both still photography and movies. Each roll of 35mm film has a certain number of frames, usually 24 or 36.
